How to disable Internet button in K800i

I have a conspiracy theory (or maybe a good marketing strategy), that the internet button in Sony Ericsson K800i (also true for K610i and more) is located in such a convenient location so that you might accidentally pressed it while the phone is in your pocket.

Plus, data transfer is not cheap. With Maxis, 1kB = 1 cent. That's a lot of cents if you use the internet button everyday.

Here is the trick to save your cents, on how to disable the Internet button. You can change so it will display your cat picture instead.
1. Press Activity menu key. Go to Internet tab --> select Bookmarks
2. Create new bookmark. In address, put this : file:///card/image/cat.jpg or whatever picture you want to put it. OR file:///card/ .I did the latter, as it will go nowhere. Just a white spash screen and back to standy
3. Save --> Set as homepage
4. Done!

Note (thanks to altemyr of esato.com forum)
To access the file picture.gif in the Pictures folder on the memory stick, the address is:

file:///card/image/picture.gif

Oth, if the file is located in the phone memory, the address is:

file:///usb/picture/picture.gif

Notice the non-plural form of the folder names (image/picture)

Hey thanks for the tip on the Sony Ericsson internet button.. God know how many times the button has been accidentally pressed in my pocket. I use a W880i and i had that problem until i stumbled across your website.

yep this is great,
my w880i was being so annoying costing me 4/5 quid on the o2 network

I think its shocking that the phone manufacturers would put the "go on the internet and cost me lots of money" button so close to the "back" button. Thanks for the fix though!

Wow this cost me so much money. If I topped up £10 I'd lose around £3-4 on o2 just by it going on the internet in my pocket.

Thanks a lot for this mate! :)

I think its dumb of Sony Ericsson (or maybe intentional?) to make that button so easily pressable while in someones pocket. Why don't they allow you to put a security code lock like nokia and others do?

Wow, thanks a million. I was going nuts losing about a third of my credit, probably as i press all the buttons in the morning instead of the snooze button! A brilliant easy fix, you're a star!

This worked too well! How can I undo it? I can't now get to the browser to change.

Phew, I eventually found how to change the home page in the phone settings rather than in the browser so can get it back. A useful tip that I will now apply to my child's phone.

Great thanks, I asked solution from my local Finnish Sonera networks and ofcourse no solution available from that direction. Now my W880i works perfect, without fear of unwanted costs!

'Activity' Menu - never heard of that b4! 'Main' Menu yes. But it can't be done via the main menu. if u try it that way you end up paying money, unless ur on orange free world. i did it thru the Homescreen button which is directly opposite the problematic internet button on the K800i. there's a way of getting to the bookmarks option there and setting up the homepage to anything but a www address. ur idea works for the bookmark addresses, but not in the other options. it half works even there actually, so that's fine.
Thanks!
